Layered Look for Women: How To Be Cool and Stay Warm


As the the temperatures begin to drop, how will you look cool and stay warm? This is the right time to flaunt your layers. Layering your clothes is one of the hottest trends in teen fashion at the moment. Plus, it's easy and practical for lots of different situations (school, work, hanging out, etc.). 

Learn what items are the layering must-haves of the season and how best to wear them.

Ponchos and Capelets. A poncho is a garment that goes over the neck, has no sleeves and is usually hooded. Most ponchos are knitted. A capelet is like a poncho but it is smaller; it covers just the neckline and shoulder. Look for ponchos and capelets in chunky knits, with tassels, with embellishments, and in any color. Wear ponchos and capelets over any top.


Shrugs. Shrugs are short, cropped sweaters that work best over tank tops, camis and tees. For girls, choose shrugs that is ornamented for a glittering factor, or shrugs made from soft, snugly materials that will keep her cozy warm and cozy all the day long.


Blazers. Blazers look fabulous for both kids and adults. Look for velvet and corduroy blazers that are fitted and cropped properly. It looks great paired with any top. However, for a more layering look, you can pair up your blazer with hooded sweater during a little colder evening or night time, and for warmer days, you can pair it up with a long shirt or tee.


Hoodies and Zippies. Hoodies and zippies are sporty types of sweatshirts or sweaters. Hoodies are sweaters or sweatshirts that have hoods while zippies have zip-up in front. Look for interesting fabrics such as velour, velvet and knits, and go for a variety of colors. Pair them up with tees or under jackets, blazers and coats.


Short Sleeved Dresses. For a fresh look layer a short sleeve or sleeveless dress over a tee or turtleneck. You can pair it up with cozy tights, zippy or blazer and voila, and there you got that adorable layered look.


Skirts. Layer thin, flowing skirt over a trousers or a skinny jeans. This look is best on girls with slight figures and long legs. For a more common girl look, pull on skirts over opaque tights. Look for a knit pattern for a more edgy-textured look. Skirts look fabulous with boots and ballet flats.


Short Sleeved Top. Layer a short sleeved top over a long sleeved top. This style works great with tees. Pairing a short sleeved sweater over a long sleeved button-up shirt is also a trendy look. Go tonal for a more traditional look, or spice it up with contrasting colors.


Scarves. Knit scarves are a great option and one of the hottest fashion accessories this season. Layer them with just about anything.  Just wrap around your neck over a summer top during summer or warmer days, while in colder days, they can be worn over outerwear such as jackets and coats. Scarves also look great over sans coat and sweaters.


Sashes. Sashes have taken the place of belts and look adorable tied around girls' waists. Knit sashes and sequined sashes embroidered with metallic thread are the most popular. Look for sashes with tassels and fringe that add movement and a bit of fun to any outfit.
